Market july 2011

Chatuchak Market Bangkok

Some photos from my last visit to the pet section of the Chatuchak Market in Bangkok.

The main market Chatuchak Weekend Market is one of the worlds biggest of its kind, and you can buy everything from clothes, plastic toys and sunglasses to furniture, paintings and sculptures. As the name implies the main market is only open saturdays and sundays.

The pet section is open all days in the week, and is a must see if you are visiting Bangkok.
I have visited the market several times during the last four years, and one alarming trend I have noticed, is the increasing number of short body breeding forms available. Earlier these sad looking man made freaks was limited to Fancy Goldfish and Balloon Mollys. But now many more species is available. I have so far seen short body forms of Blood Parrots, Clarias sp., Glossolepis incisus, Melanotaenia spp., Moenkhausia sp. and Trichogaster leerii. Many more will probably be available during the coming years.
